It’s well known that Raimi wasn’t a fan of Venom and was forced to cram the character into the film by producer Avi Arad, who would eventually shoulder all of the blame. Interestingly, the host notes that this animatronic was actually used in early promotion for the film, featured in the very first teaser trailer that initially debuted in front of San Diego Comic-Con attendees back in July 2006. The animatronic is incredibly detailed and looks way more in line with Todd McFarlane‘s creation than what Raimi ended up putting on the screen in 2007. Spider-Man 2 also featured revolutionary game-changing special effects that brought Marvel’s Doc Ock to life and promised to do the same with Venom in Spider-Man 3.
Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man 2 is easily one of the greatest comic book movies ever made, which is why the third film in his series is one of the most disappointing.
